Dr. Santosh Singh Patel, (M.S., FAICO (CP), FVRS)

Dr. Santosh Singh Patel son of Mr C B Patel & Mrs Rajshree Patel was born in MP and brought up in Balod, CG. He has done his Primary education till senior secondary with distinction and merit from Balod, Distt, Durg. He has served Chhattisgarh rural area as Medical Officer, Dist. Korea between 2001- 2005 during this period he did training on MOTC- district Tuberculosis officer and training on family planning operations. He did more than 300 LTT surgeries between2004-2005 at Kawardha Hospital. He was district In-charge & Master trainer Sickle Cell Control Project for about 1 year at District- Kabirdham, Chhattisgarh. He did his MBBS from Pt. JNM Medical College, Raipur in 2000. After that he did MS (Ophthalmology) in 2008 from Pt. JNM Medical College, Raipur. He did Phacoemulsification advanced cataract surgery training from Laxmi Eye Institute, Mumbai, 2010. He has passed F.A.I.C.O. (Cataract & Phaco), “Fellowship of All India Collegium of Ophthalmology” in 2010 and he is the first person in Chhattisgarh who got this award.
He has done training from “ICO” international council of ophthalmology for post graduate teaching programme in 2010.
F.V.R.S. - Fellowship in “Medical Retina & Surgical Vitreo Retinal Diseases has been done from Giridhar Eye Institute, Cochin, Kerala 2012. He joined Pt. JNM Medical College, Raipur in 2008 as Assistant Professor and now working as Associate Professor, Vitreoretina Services since 2014. His area of interest is Vitreo- retinal disease medical & surgical management, Corneal transplantation, Scleral fixated IOLs, Glued IOL, and Secondary IOLs, Phaco- emulsification.
He has done more then 1000 retina surgeries successfully and give sight to blind persons.

Awards and Achievements

  • He has published many articles in indexed journals and more than 100 scientific paper presentations in international, national and state level conferences.
  • He has received “Best Paper award “Young researcher” in 2007 for his research work on “Retinoblastoma genetic study”.
  • He has received Best paper award from Chhattisgarh State Society in 2011 for his research paper on “Oculo-Rhinosporidiosis- scleral grafting”.
  • He has received Best paper award from Chhattisgarh State Society in 2015 for his research paper on “Management of retinal detachment and its outcome”.
  • He was also received President’s award from Chhattisgarh State Society in 2012, 2017, 2018, 2019, & 2021 for his outstanding work in ophthalmology.
  • He has delivered more then 100 lecture as guest speaker in state & national level conferences.
  • He has organized so many workshop and CMEs and he was chief organizing secretary of annual ophthalmological conference of state CG in 2012 and 2015 & 2018. Chief organizing secretary of Mid year ophthalmological conference of state CG in 2018 & 2019.
  • He has taken many responsibilities as representing ophthalmological society in state level as general secretary of RDOS 2011-12-13, Joint secretary of RDOS 2010, clinical secretary of RDOS 2009, joint secretary of state ophthalmic society 2012-14 and now he is Hon General secretary of state society 2014 to 2021. He has awarded as “Corona COVID Warrier ” by Chhatisgarh government and Chhattisgarh Medical teachers Association. He has awarded as “Corona COVID Warrier” by Chhattisgarh State ophthalmological Society and All India Ophthalmological Society in Annual Conference of 2020.
  • In early school days he was throughout meritorious and passed in distinction. He was involved in social services with Scouts & Guides and NSS, for that He received Governor Award in 1993 and President Award in 1994.
  • He was also involved in painting, handicraft, fine arts, quiz competition, sports and received many awards in school and college days.
